BreadBox started with a simple question: Why is it so inconvenient to get hot and delicious bread at home?
So we thought about the best bread we’ve ever had and got to work. What we quickly learned is that most breads you find at the supermarket are full of artificial additives, preservatives, colourants, emulsifiers, and conditioners, all designed to make breads look and taste fresh.
We wanted to offer the convenience of the grocery store, but with all the quality of a bakery - but without losing that hot-out-of-the-oven freshness.

Our bread is made with only the best ingredients. That means no added preservatives, no harmful additives, and nothing weird that you can't pronounce.
Our bread uses naturally fermented yeast as a leavening agent (the levain), which is how sourdough gets its distinctive flavour. The levain helps break down carbohydrates leading to bread that is more nutritious and easier to digest.
Our bread is made locally in Montreal using Quebec wheat. It's organic and vegan, and we are working hard to reach our goal of 100% compostable packaging.

We started Carbs Bakery in the summer of 2018 with the launch of our BreadBox Sourdough.
When we moved in together, we started paying more attention to the food we were
buying at the supermarket.
We noticed that even simple foods like
bread were not made from simple
ingredients. So many products are
full of unnatural additives, preservatives,
colorants and emulsifiers .
It is no wonder that so many people
are having problems digesting bread!
The more research we started
doing, the more we learned
that most people who have
gluten sensitivity, are
actually more likely reacting
to these other additives.
We set out to

We rented a bakery at nights and worked
until the early morning making our BreadBoxes to sell in local organic stores.
Our first breads were not great but we kept on improving and learning as much as we could.
It also wasn't easy in our rented bakery. The bakery didn't have the proper oven so we had to bake using a dozen heavy cast iron dutch ovens that we carried in and out of the ovens over and over and over.
One day we got a text message saying that the bakery was out of money and closing the next day. With no warning, we had to pack up all of our things and leave. That was the push we needed to get a space of our own and in May 2019, we signed the lease for our bakery.
Launching our business has been an
